DOCUMENTARY FAMILY PHOTOGRAPHY is all about capturing your family’s different personalities and your real moments. No posing, no cheese, no stress involved.Â
It is ideal for documenting your day or a slice of your family life. A morning, an afternoon, a walk around the block. Whatever it is your family does, I’ll just show up at your door and be the friend with a camera, shooting away.
Be it a perfectly normal day or an extraordinary one, making dinner or visiting one of the many parks in Bloomington, IN, I'm there to catch those things you never quite can with your phone: the funny moments, the hugs, the kisses, the imaginative play, the giggles, the tantrums. The real life moments that makeup the heart of your family.Â
And the best part? They include you!
I’m the one behind the lens capturing the moments you want to hold on to so much! And if you want, at the end of your session - when everyone is already very used to me and my camera - we can take 15-20 minutes and create a relaxed and natural portrait for the Christmas card, for example, that shows your true family personality!
The images we capture in a session like this have the power to take you right back to that very moment. They show you what it felt like, not just what it looked like.
Because real life is better than any filter.
The S. Family
How do I know a documentary family photography session is right for my family? If you have people in your family who break out in hives just thinking about posing for a picture, or you get yourself stressed out thinking of all the work you have to put into in order to get everyone out of the door for a traditional session, this is for you. If you are looking for the real life of your real family that will remind you of how you felt at this point in time and not just just instagram worthy stuff, then I am your gal.Â
How long do sessions typically last? Sessions last 2.5 -3.5 hours (ideally a little longer) so everyone can get used to me and forget I have a camera (yes, it’s possible). This helps everyone relax and allows me to capture the moments you want to keep. Â
Do I need to deep clean my house before you come? If you are worried about the state of your house, don’t. I'm also a mom of littles and as far as I know, there is no contest for the cleanest house with kids around. Messy floors, toys strewn around the house and a pile of laundry just serve to tell your story, at this moment in time. It won’t always be like this. However, if it makes you feel better, go ahead and pick up some. Just know that, as a mom, I am not fazed by it, and as a photographer I can work around crazy backgrounds and take good pictures regardless of where I’m at. No need to stress.
